Day 1 - Week 1

Well after the shock of actually having to get up to go somewhere for the first time in a few weeks, I made it the school on time. And it's definitely what you'd call "in the sticks". Hackney it aint. Innit.

So first of all, we had a meet and greet session where we all stood up and said why we wanted to do the course, to my surprise there wasn't too many IT people, in fact only me and 2 others. But the common glue was certainly that we were all fed up with our work and looking for a career break. Apart from a few tax dodging parisites on society (students) who felt they needed a break from their exertions at college.

After a walk around the farm we planted some seeds, met the cows, pigs, chickens, ducks etc. Everything on the farm is freerange and organic, and it really is a joy to see, the pigs actually looked really happy, I couldn't help but think I can't wait till they're slaughtered and I get to taste them though.

Then it was lunch, a delicious Tomato and Basil soup, followed by a really amazing main course of simple stuffs from local producers, smoked Salmon, smoked Eel, smoked Mackerel, Chicken liver pate, smoked sausage and Shrimps that had only come of the boat just 3 hours before. Absolutely stunning, and all because of the quality of the ingredients.

I can tell right now that i'm going to enjoy the next 3 months.

Tomorrow we're making, amongst other things, wholemeal bread, lemonade and candied peel. Easy!
